Happy International Women’s Day! Here are some women in music I would like to highlight in celebration!
1: Kristina Mihalova
Kristina does scat covers of jazz songs on her Instagram! Her tone is so beyond beautiful and her transcriptions are on point. I seriously can’t get enough of these little snippets all over her IG page. She is so unique and talented, I just had to say something to the internet void about her!
Ashe has recently gotten a lot of traction after her song “Moral of the Story” was synced in Netflix’s “To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You”.
If you fall down the Ashe-rabbit-hole and sink into her other releases, you can find some absolute gems! My personal favorite include “After Life” off of her 2018 album and “Love Me for the Weekend” featuring Ashe.
On a more personal note, don’t you love when you listen to an artist you used to play nonstop, and it brings you back to the season of life you were in when you couldn’t get enough of that artist?
I feel that Ashe will be one of those artists for me.
Her songs have been stuck in my head nonstop for the past few months. I can definitely tell that when I listen to her five or ten years from now, they will remind me of the season of life I’m currently in because of how much I play these songs on repeat right now.
3: Taylor Rossi
Taylor is a digital music marketer, primarily for classical musicians.
The content she makes for musicians and other creatives is so full of valuable information and genuine care for your wellbeing as a freelancer.
When I said, “I know so so many people online who want to share their knowledge of their craft and help you. There’s a whole community of musicians online who are there to help/support one another and have your best interest in mind as well” I was talking about Taylor!
4: Lucia Sarmiento
As a young saxophonist myself, it is so awesome to have Lucia as a role model.
Her tone is so dreamy, and you can see the love for her craft radiate from her transcription videos.
Also, watching her shred on her EWI with her cat in the background is such a mood for me.
Put simply, I never not want to see her videos on my Instagram feed!
5: Cheryl Porter
Cheryl Porter is a vocal coach who posts videos of her teaching on Youtube.
You can see the genuine love she has for teaching music to others.
In all her videos, you can feel the support and enthusiasm she is giving to her students. More importantly, you can see how comfortable and empowered her students feel during their lessons with her.
This gives music students an inside look at what a truly amazing teacher is like to have, plus what they should be looking for in a teacher.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and celebrate some awesome women in music with me!
If you have any you would like to highlight, please let me know in the comments below.
As always, best of luck in your musical endeavors, I’ll be here cheering you on!
